Vanishing Point
My
second CD, Vanishing Point, is a collection of songs old and new about romantic
relationships. Not so much love songs as songs about real love.
The refrain to the cover “Isn’t That So,” by Jesse Winchester, “You have to go where your heart says go / Isn’t that so,” pretty much sums up the stories of Vanishing Point’s characters. They follow their hearts, through anticipation, conflict, longing, betrayal, and haunted lives, to some kind of not-quite redemption.
After working with my daughter Lenne on Packwood, I wanted to do an entire record with her. So she appears here on all the songs on harmonies and duet vocals. Coming up with the vocal blends was the most fun in making the whole record. There’s something about family harmonies that gets under your skin. Lenne’s beau, Dane Johnson, made an exquisite painting for the cover.
I was honored to work with Buck Owens’ longtime drummer, Jim McCarty, on this outing. He’s a gifted, intuitive, totally professional drummer from L.A. who gave me much support over the months he laid down the tracks. The result is a full-band, roots inspired, and somewhat hard to categorize sound that captures my electric side.
Projects like these tend to take you over. They exist in a constantly expanding universe. However, after the seven years it took to make Packwood, I’m almost prolific with this release.
